According to the provincial Health branch, the current DHF situation in the area is complicated with the number of cases, the number of severe cases and deaths increasing. Up to now, the number of DHF cases has increased by 44.1% over the same period in 2021. Localities with the highest number of cases are Tan Uyen Town 1,402 cases, Di An City 1,269 cases, Thuan An City 1,089 cases, Thu Dau Mot City 989 cases, etc.
The ratio of severe cases to the total number of cases is 252 cases, accounting for 3.46%; in which severe cases are mainly concentrated in under 15 years old, accounting for 61% of the total number of severe cases.
Dr. Huynh Minh Chin - Deputy Director of the Department of Health said that there is no vaccine for DHF and no specific treatment. One of the reasons leading to the increase in DHF is that people's awareness is not high, they are still subjective, neglectful, and have not actively implemented measures to kill wriggling, larvae, etc. This is the main source of disease transmission in the household. A part of people due to subjective psychology self-treating at home should lead to rapid complications and death.
In fact, the number of cases and deaths from DHF recently is alarming. In Thu Dau Mot City, the death is baby N.N.H.M., born in 2019, temporarily residing in Chanh My ward. Before that, M. had a fever and his family bought medicine to take at home. Nearly a week of self-medicating at home, the disease did not decrease, the family took the baby to the hospital and the doctor diagnosed shock DHF N6. Then the baby M. died at Children's Hospital 2 (Ho Chi Minh City).
The results of the investigation of insects and larvae at N.N.H.M's house showed that the index of water containers with larvae was very high (BI = 74), 3 times higher than the allowable level.
In Binh Duong province, there are 3 facilities specializing in treating severe DHF patients, including: Phu Chanh Facility (previously treating patients infected with Covid-19); Department of Pediatrics and Department of Emergency and Preventive Resuscitation in some departments of the Provincial General Hospital. "Although the number of DHF cases in the area has increased, it is still not overloaded," said Mr. Chin.
The biggest difficulty of the Health branch in Binh Duong province is the lack of grassroots health personnel when implementing DHF prevention and control activities. After the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, a series of grassroots health staff quit, causing many difficulties for DHF prevention and control activities in the community.
Facing the above situation, Binh Duong Health branch called on people to immediately report to the local government the addresses that are at risk of causing DHF for timely handling, even sanctioning according to regulations.
