Song Than Station is located on National Highway 1A, bordering Binh Duong Province and Ho Chi Minh City, capable of connecting with many provinces. In 2022, the Station has transported over 1.6 million tons of goods, with main transportation items being electronic equipment, automobiles, groceries, food, production materials and products manufactured for industrial zones of Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.

The total capacity of international intermodal transport at Song Than Station is 1.27 million tons/year, expected to reach 2.5 million tons/year by 2025. Due to the lack of international intermodal transport, import and export goods transported at the station only account for about 10% to 15% of the station's output. Besides, the lack of import and export procedures at the station affected the time and cost of import and export activities.

Mr. Dang Sy Manh - Chairman of the Members' Council of the Vietnam Railways Corporation said that the Ministry of Transport is currently developing and submitting to the Government "Plan for improving international rail transport capacity" with 8 stations, of which Song Than Station is planned to become a key cargo station in the South. Accordingly, two railway lines will be formed: Song Than - Dong Dang; Song Than - Lao Cai. From here, goods by rail from Binh Duong will connect with China and other countries on the Asia-Europe rail transport route. Song Than Station has the advantage of having been granted an intermodal code, Binh Duong's early completion of site and security requirements will further promote the Station's international intermodal efficiency. In particular, doing import-export procedures at the Station will create great favorable conditions for import-export enterprises.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Vo Van Minh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the PPC acknowledged the proposals of the Vietnam Railways Corporation. He requested the Customs Department, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Department of Transport to soon complete the requirements for site and security, carry out import and export procedures at the Station to reduce the time and cost of transporting goods for enterprises. Binh Duong will always create conditions for the Vietnam Railway Corporation to clear ground, focus on investing in renovating and improving the customs clearance capacity, warehouse system, etc. to effectively exploit and develop Song Than international intermodal station into a logistics center of the province and the Southeast region.
