PORTAL - On the morning of May 19, at the Administrative Center of Binh Duong province, Mr. Vo Van Minh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee (PPC) chaired a reception for Ms. Sarah Hooper - Australian Consul-General in Ho Chi Minh City to pay a courtesy.
At the meeting, Chairman of the PPC Vo Van Minh congratulated Ms. Sarah Hooper on accepting the assignment as Australian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City; at the same time thanked the good sentiments of the Australian Government and people for supporting Vietnam to overcome difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Chairman of the PPC briefly introduced the socio-economic situation and investment attraction of Binh Duong province. With an open and attractive investment environment, in recent years, Binh Duong has always been one of the leading provinces and cities nationwide in attracting foreign direct investment. As of April 30, 2022, the province has 4,044 investment projects from 65 countries and territories with a total registered capital of 39.4 billion USD. Binh Duong is currently ranked 2nd in the country in terms of attracting foreign investment, after Ho Chi Minh City. Australia alone has 29 investment projects in the province with a total capital of more than 132 million USD; investment fields are mainly in wood industry, cold storage, production of household appliances, agriculture and other supporting industries.

Chairman of the PPC emphasized that Binh Duong is recovering strongly after the Covid-19 pandemic. The province aims to develop a green and sustainable economy, giving priority to attracting investment in high-tech, advanced, environmentally friendly industries and fields, which are less labor intensive and create high added value. Appreciating the friendly relationship between the two countries Vietnam and Australia over the years, the Chairman of the PPC said that the potential for cooperation between the two sides is huge. He believed that with her role, Sarah Hooper will have many activities to promote the cooperation relationship between Australia and Vietnam, including Binh Duong, which is increasingly expanding and developing further in the fields of economy, trade, cultural exchange, education. Especially, there will be more Australian enterprises to invest in Binh Duong.
In the coming time, leaders of Binh Duong province will attend the Australia-ASEAN Business Forum which will take place at the end of May 2022 in Australia. Thereby, Binh Duong continues to call for investment, connect exchanges and cooperation, and create the best conditions for Australian enterprises to invest and operate effectively in Binh Duong.

She congratulated the province on achieving high rankings on the PCI and PAPI in 2021, which affirms that Binh Duong continues to be an attractive investment destination. She said that the province's development orientations are consistent with the contents of the Strategy to strengthen economic cooperation between Vietnam and Australia, signed by the two Prime Ministers in 2021. At the same time, she committed that as Consul General, she will act as a bridge to support and promote cultural exchanges, education and investment cooperation between Australia and Vietnam, including Binh Duong.
