Binh Duong People's Committee met Taiwanese investors in the province

BEGIC - ​In the morning of November, 29, the provincial People's Committee held a conference in Binh Duong Convention and Exhibition center with Taiwanese enterprises doing business in the province. 

Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Tran Thanh Liem presided over the conference. Participants at the event included Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Tran Thanh Liem; representatives of Taipei Economic and Cultural office; association, general association and sub-association of Taiwanese businessmen together with leaders from departments and branches in the province and representatives of the Taiwanese enterprises in Binh Duong.

Overview of the meeting

Addressing the conference on socio-economic situation of Binh Duong province ​in the first 11 months of 2017, Director of the provincial Department of Planning and Investment Nguyen Thanh Truc said that local Foreign Direct Investment (​​FDI) attraction in January-November period further turned active. The total registered capital hit US$ 2 billion and 514 million, exceeding 79% of the year plan. This included 178 new projects worth US$ 1 billion and 301 million; 111 operational projects for injecting an addition of US$ 965 million, plus 75 investment others made under the form of share sales and stake transfers to foreign investors with a total capital of US$274 million.

To date, Binh Duong has licensed 3,027 FDI projects with a total registered capital of US$ 28 billion and 238 million, ranking second only after Ho Chi Minh city and accounting for 9.4% of the whole nation's total FDI.

Taiwan has made 2,531 projects with a total registered capital of US$ 30.7 billion, coming fourth in the list of nations and territories making direct investment into Vietnam.

In Binh Duong alone, Taiwan has invested in 732 projects with a total registered capital of US$ 5 billion and 804 million, making it the largest foreign investor in Binh Duong.

The Taiwanese enterprises said that investment environment in Binh Duong is increasingly improving and local government has always stood side by side with the investors. To facilitate the investors' operation, representatives of the Taiwanese enterprises suggested that Binh Duong should ask Central government for extending limits towards foreigners working in Vietnam, extension of temporary residence cards in Vietnam. The Taiwanese enterprises also expected Binh Duong to soon upgrade the section running from My Phuoc to Bau Bang and from Thu Dau Mot city to My Phuoc 3 in order to facilitate business exchanges and regional link.

All questions of the Taiwanese enterprises were noted and appropriately answered by departments and branches.

In his closing speech at the conference, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Tran Thanh Liem appreciated and noted the enterprises' opinions. As for matters within the competence of Central government, Binh Duong province will summarize them for submission to the Central ministries and sectors for consideration and settlement. ​
