BEGIC - ​Developing clean energy and reducing environmental pollution caused by the energy industry are the issues given at the Vietnam Energy Summit 2020, co-hosted by the Government and Central Economic Committee on the morning of July 22 in Hanoi.

The Summit was attended and presided by Mr. Nguyen Van Binh - Politburo Member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Economic Committee; Mr. Trinh Dinh Dung - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister. In addition, there was participation of senior leaders of ministries, branches, and central agencies and 63 bridge points in localities, 26 bridge points in 12 countries around the world, more than 1,000 leading experts in domestic and international energy industry.

At Binh Duong bridge point, the Summit was attended by Mr. Nguyen Hoang Thao - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Truc - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Pham Trong Nhan - Deputy Head of Provincial Delegation of National Assembly and leaders of departments, agencies, districts, towns and cities.

At the Summit, Resolution 55/NQ-TW of the Politburo on the orientation of Vietnam's National Energy Development Strategy up to 2030, with a vision to 2045 was deployed. According to the assessment, in the Energy sector, the annual growth rate was 13% since 2000 and expected to continue growing by 8% until 2030. The Government estimates that the power capacity shall be increased from the 42 GW at current time to 60 GW by 2020 and 100 GW by 2030. In order to meet this target, Vietnam should annually install 5 GW of new capacity. Accordingly, many technical, managerial and financial challenges are posed. From now to 2030, Vietnam Electricity should annually invest about USD  8-12 billion, which is higher than the average of by USD 8 billion per year than before. Therefore, the Resolution 55/NQ-TW of the Central Government stated many priority tasks such as development of clean energy and reduction of environmental pollution caused by the energy industry. These are crucial issues for planning specific policies and measures for Vietnam's economic development plan until 2045. This resolution is considered to be a breakthrough that opens a really competitive energy market in Vietnam and quickly supported by many experts and businesses.

The delegates also heard the Ambassador, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam present some experiences of the European Union on the issues  of growth and clean and renewable energy; The US Deputy Minister of Energy stated the US Department of Energy's initiatives and support for the development of renewable energy in Southeast Asia and Vietnam; The representative of the World Bank presented the shift of clean energy associated with sustainable development of Vietnam, etc in the bridge points around the world. At the same time, they exchanged, made conversations and clarified major views, orientations and breakthrough points of Resolution 55 in order to unify the will, take drastic and synchronous actions so that Resolution 55 of the Politburo to quickly come into life.

On this occasion, investment groups, contractors, banks and ministries and localities also signed cooperation agreements on a number of typical projects on energy, especially cooperation on financing VND 11,000 billion between Tien Phong Commercial Joint Stock Bank (TPBank) and Bamboo Capital Group to implement the projects of renewable energy such as wind, solar and solar rooftop.

In the afternoon of the same day, 4 seminars took place in parallel, including: Energy restructuring in association with sustainable energy infrastructure development in the national energy development strategy to 2020; economical and efficient use of energy for sustainable development; wind power development in the National energy development strategy; solar and new energy development in Vietnam National Energy Development Strategy. In addition, the International Exhibition on Energy, under this event, displays the renewable energy products and models such as solar, wind, biomass, biofuels, etc and supporting technology products for effective energy use; energy-saving solutions in production; Energy-saving solutions for high-rise buildings, etc.​
