BEGIC - Workplace accidents have become a prolonged pain in both mind
and body for victims, their families and the society. To minimize this
pain, sectors and authorities at all levels of the province have made
efforts to be determined to handle infringements, ensuring safety for
laborers.

Prolonged pain

Provincial leaders have just organized a delegation to visit and present gifts to laborers hit by workplace accidents. This was part of the province’s activities in response to the 2016 National Week on Labor Safety-Hygiene (LSH) and Fire-Explosion Prevention (FEP). In this stage, the whole province had a total of 25 victims of workplace accidents presented gifts worth between VND2mln-VND4mln each from the local State budget together VND200,000 from provincial Social Insurance.

Nguyen Ngoc Loan, born in 1972, residing in Di An town’s Tan Binh ward, a victim of workplace accident with the disability level of 91% said that four years ago, he experienced a terrible workplace accident when working for Bor Yeah Co.Ltd. The accident made his legs be paralyzed. At that time, he had to face a lot of pains in both mind and body. But thanks to his family and relatives’ encouragement, he rose up and was self-confident to live well. He now helps his wife to do housework and takes care of his son.

One year ago, Nguyen Van Sang, born in 1993, residing in Thuan An town’s An Phu ward also suffered a workplace accident at Tien Phat Plastic Packing Company, making his right hand chopped off. Surmounting a complex about his situation, Sang has tried to live optimistically and accustomed himself to using his left hand not to become a burden to his family.

Learning experience from himself, Sang hopes that workers will wear safety work clothing to protect themselves from workplace accidents. They also need to concentrate on their work to avoid workplace accidents that may occur. This is because workplace accidents not only make themselves suffer pains, but also bring the burden to their families and the society.

Minimizing workplace accidents

According to a report by provincial Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (DoLISA), workplace accidents have still occurred across the province, despite practical deeds done. There were 474 workplace accidents reported in the province last year, injuring 483 people. The industries leading the tally of fatal workplace accidents were manufacturing, construction and transportation.

The primary cause of workplace accidents in the province over the past time was that employers did not pay attention to taking measures to ensure labor safety for their employees. Besides, employees still neglected labor safety regulations. The local inspection forces were also not capable of controlling over infringements on LSH for timely solution.

To limit workplace accidents, the whole province is bending on taking measures to bring the Law on LSH into life so that employers and employees can well observe labor safety regulations. Provincial DoLISA has also set up inspection delegations of LSH at enterprises. Inspection work has been focused on units that occurred workplace accidents, enterprises with poor awareness of LSH and FEP, and those operating in high-risk fields of LSH and FEP.

According to Ho Quang Diep - Director of provincial DoLISA, employers, employees and management units need to join hands in realizing the Law on LSH to minimize workplace accident cases. Provincial DoLISA will strengthen propaganda work to raise awareness and responsibility of employers, employees and the whole society about LSH and FEP; coordinate with employers to make training on LSH and FEP among employees; strengthen inspection and supervision of LSH and FEP at enterprises, encourage them to improve their shortcomings; be determined to seriously handle enterprises deliberately violating labor safety.

During his last visit to victims of workplace accidents, provincial People’s Committee Vice-Chairman Dang Minh Hung extended best regards to them while expressing his sympathy towards them. He also suggested sectors, authorities at all levels of the province to pay more attention to victims of workplace accidents, creating advantageous conditions for them to stabilize their lives. For those who are still capable of working after being hit by workplace accidents, they need to be vocationally trained and offered jobs to be able to earn their living. This is also the way, helping them surmount difficulties as well as showing the local tribute to workforce that has made contributions to building up a more prosperous and beautiful Binh Duong
