BEGIC - Compared to 2014, the number of traffic accidents in 2015 in the province decreased by 531, the deaths declined by 6 and the number of injured people dropped by 899. The result showed that the province did not fulfill a criterion on the number of deaths caused by traffic accidents as expected. Hence, one of major tasks set by provincial Traffic Safety Committee in 2016 is to reduce at least 5% of traffic accidents on all 3 criteria (number of accidents, number of deaths and number of the injured).

Efforts by local authorities at all levels

In 2015, the local functional force intensified patrols, finding out 66,796 wrong cases regarding traffic order and safety, issued penalties worth more than VND88bln; teamed up with relevant agencies to check 11,535 vehicles, revoked 1,264 drivers’ licenses…, thereby restricting traffic congestion and accidents.

Sectors and mass organizations at all level of the province jointly engaged in activities ranging from propaganda, patrol to discovery and strict punishment to violations, greatly contributing to raising public awareness of traffic safety.

Thanks to good preparation and coordination, many localities maintained traffic safety and order. Particularly, TDM city and Thuan An town saw a decrease in all 3 criteria (number of accidents, number of deaths and number of the injured) while Ben Cat town, districts of Dau Tieng, Phu Giao, Bau Bang and North Tan Uyen reached 2 criteria on the number of accidents and the injured. Implementing 2015’s main contents “Tightening control over transportation businessand vehicle load” brought positive results, contributing to limiting the situation of overloaded vehicles on main streets of the province.

Further taking synchronous measures

Many measures were also put forward at provincial conference reviewing 2015’s task to ensure traffic safety and defining task for 2016 with the participation of representatives of sectors, mass organizations and leaders of Traffic Safety Committees at all levels. Senior lieutenant colonel Ho Quang Thanh, Deputy Head of Thuan An town’s Police Agency said that over the past time, the town’s Traffic Safety Committee took measures in order to uphold the effectiveness of the local task on ensuring traffic safety.

Besides, selecting proper objects of propaganda will contribute to lessening violations involved traffic safety. “We have forwarded traffic safety propaganda among lorry and taxi drivers of some firms operating in the town. In the coming time, we will further organize propaganda activities for the remaining taxi drivers”, Senior lieutenant colonel Thanh said.

In the coming time, the province’s traffic police force will strength coordination with functional agencies, enterprises…in propaganda and patrol, ensuring the local traffic safety and order.

At the conference, provincial Traffic Safety Committee also acknowledged contributive ideas by sectors, mass organizations and localities for research and application into reality, aiming to guarantee the local traffic safety and order in 2016.

The province’s implementation of the 2016 Traffic Safety Year with the theme "Building traffic culture associated with improving accountability and tightening discipline of duty performancers" with the goal "Set human life above all else" aims to raise efficiency of State management in ensuring traffic safety; enhance public awareness of observance of traffic rules; build traffic culture in the community. The province will strive to lower the number of traffic accidents and the number of deaths and injuries caused by traffic accidents by 5% and above compared to those of 2015 while further improving traffic congestion in key areas of TDM city, Di An and Thuan An towns.

Concluding the conference, provincial People’s Committee Vice-Chairman Tran Thanh Liem praised and acknowledged the efforts by sectors and mass organizations at all levels of the province in ensuring traffic safety in 2015.
