Vietnam General Confederation of Labor pays a working visit to Binh Duong province

BEGIC - On January 16th, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor had a working session with Binh Duong provincial leaders on the assessment of union activities and the conditions of the provincial workers, officials and laborers.
        
Mr. Tran Thanh Liem, Vice-chairman of Binh Duong People’s Committee and Leaders of Binh Duong’s Confederation of Labor received the delegation.
 
According to the figures released by the provincial Labor Confederation, there are currently 820,000 employees in total, which comprise of 70% female employees, 85% migrant workers. The average minimum salary ranges from 2.8 million VND to 3.5 million VND in which the wage level of employee from administrative agencies, public enterprises, FDI businesses and private businesses re 3 million, 3.5 million, 3 million and 2,8 million VND/person/month respectively.
 
In 2013, the provincial leaders and unions in different levels held 1,097 ideas construction and law dissemination conferences/seminars such as suggestion making on the 1996 constitutional amendment, social insurance law, health insurance law, union law and other regulations, policies that are related to workers, officials, laborers and the union. The conferences/seminars attracted more than 160,000 participants. Moreover, several programs were held to satisfy their needs for shopping and entertainment for instance: “Binh Duong’s Workers Week 2013”, “Binh Duong’s Workers’Fair 2013”.

On Labor law implementation, there were 1,957 businesses joined the Union, 1,772 registered the payroll, 1,892 registered work regulations, 1,265 built and registered collective agreement, 1072 established the labor safety council. The number of employees purchased mandatory social insurance and health insurance were 705,950 employees, in which 65%, 25% and 10% of them were from FDI businesses, private enterprises and administrative agencies and State-owned businesses respectively.
 
The economic recession had a strong influence on the employees’ job, income, life and union branch activities.

Speaking at the meeting, Member of Central Party Committee – Chairman of Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Mr. Dang Ngoc Tung acknowledged and appreciated the achievements that Binh Duong province gained on socio-economic development in 2013 as well as good performances on union activities, employees and laborers’ care . He requested the province to focus on 2012 union law implementation and enforcement; renovate and improve the collective agreement, build a harmonious labor relation, care for employees and laborers on physical and spiritual lives, especially clear the pending matters on social insurance debts and wage debts. He also demanded Binh Duong province to assist underprivileged employees on the occasion of the coming Tet holiday.
  
In order to support on the occasion of 2014 Tet holiday, Binh Duong province used 3,500 rations, 500,000 VND/each/person to assist workers and laborers who are not affordable to come back home. The provincial labor confederation also granted 1,000 bus and train tickets for them to return home on the holiday.
