Talking at the meeting, Mr. Shantanu Chakraborty shared that he was very happy to accept a new assignment in Viet Nam during the Viet Nam Water Week 2023.
This is an event of great significance in terms of protecting the water environment. Although he has just accepted his assignment in Viet Nam, he highly appreciated the development potential of Viet Nam in general and Binh Duong in particular. ADB not only supports public investment but also supports the private economic sector, typically the cooperation between ADB and Binh Duong Water - Environment Corporation - Joint Stock Company (Biwase). He hoped that the relationship between ADB and Binh Duong would become even better to promote cooperation in the field of public investment (ODA) and the private economic sector.

At the same time, he had a few recommendations for the province. With the loan appraisal for the raw water supply project in Bau Bang, he expected Binh Duong to have a commitment on the water price roadmap, because determining water price is of great significance to the success of the non-refundable project. In addition, he hoped that Binh Duong's provincial leaders would support the approval of Biwase's water supply service contract. ADB determined that this is a contract based on the credit reputation that Biwase has obtained from previous projects. In addition, Binh Duong needs to develop a tariff for solid waste treatment services soon.
Informing the meeting, the Permanent Vice Chairman of the PPC Mai Hung Dung said that in the process of socio-economic development, Binh Duong always pays attention to the fields of environmental protection, green and sustainable development. In the coming time, in the field of public investment, Binh Duong will deploy the construction of tidal dams to prevent flooding in the Southern region. In addition, the scale of waste collection at currently operating waste treatment plants will be expanded. At the same time, expanding wastewater treatment systems in urban areas in the Northern regions. He hoped that ADB would support Binh Duong in implementing projects.
Regarding the recommendations from Mr. Shantanu Chakraborty, Binh Duong will soon discuss with the Central government's Ministries and branches, along with provincial departments and branches to be able to build a tariff on water prices in accordance with the provisions of law. Regarding the water supply service contract, the provincial leaders have agreed to approve it and will assign the functional branch to sign directly with ADB.
