Japan supports a loan of nearly 1,100 billion VND to renovate public transport infrastructure in Binh Duong

​PORTAL - On July 04, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Finance Vo Thanh Hung and Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Sugano Yuichi signed three loan agreements for three programs and projects with a total value of nearly 61 billion yen (equivalent to about 450 million USD). Attending the ceremony on the side of Binh Duong province was Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee (PPC), Nguyen Van Danh.

​Accordingly, JICA will provide loans to Viet Nam worth more than 10,670 billion VND for 3 projects, including: a loan agreement to support the budget of 50 billion yen for the post-Covid-19 Viet Nam socio-economic recovery and development program; and two loan agreements for infrastructure development investment projects in the provinces of Binh Duong and Lam Dong.

Particularly, the loan for the public transport infrastructure improvement project in Binh Duong is worth 6.3 billion yen (approximately 1,100 billion VND). This project will develop a rapid bus system connecting Binh Duong - Ho Chi Minh City - Dong Nai, creating a premise for the development of an oriented traffic system along the Metro line.

The public transport infrastructure improvement project in Binh Duong province belongs to Group A with a total investment of more than 2,000 billion VND, of which the Japanese official development assistance (ODA) loan is expected to be more than 1,300 billion VND, and the province's reciprocal capital is more than 700 billion VND.

The project includes a number of main items, such as 06 overpasses at major intersections on the My Phuoc - Tan Van road (the main road connecting Binh Duong - Ho Chi Minh City). At the same time, the project will deploy a bus rapid transit (BRT) route connecting Binh Duong New City and Suoi Tien Station, more than 30 kilometers long. The project will be implemented in the 2019-2025 period.

Previously, in mid-June 2023, the delegation of Binh Duong province, led by Mr. Nguyen Van Loi - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, visited and worked with JICA in Japan on the occasion of the 50th founding anniversary of Viet Nam - Japan diplomatic relations.

Here, the two sides discussed the implementation of a number of projects that Binh Duong is performing with the support of JICA such as the public transport infrastructure improvement project in Binh Duong province; the urban railway project from Suoi Tien station to Binh Duong New City; Bau Bang - Thi Vai - Cai Mep industrial railway. The Secretary of Binh Duong Provincial Party Committee, Nguyen Van Loi highly appreciated and thanked JICA for its interest in and support for ODA loans for projects in Viet Nam and Binh Duong.

The Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Loi wished that JICA would continue to pay attention and support Binh Duong province in speeding up transportation infrastructure projects connecting airports, seaports, regional links, promoting socio-economic development.

Especially, studying and supporting technical package for feasibility study to extend urban railway line No. 1 from Suoi Tien station to Binh Duong New City.

Up until now, Japan has continued to be Viet Nam's largest bilateral donor, with a total committed capital of more than 2,567 billion yen (equivalent to more than 23 billion USD). Japanese loan projects with a diverse range of borrowers such as transportation, energy, health care, education, response to climate change, etc. have been making important contributions to Viet Nam's socio-economic development.​
