Developing smart tourism in the context of Industrial Revolution 4.0

​PORTAL - In the framework of the TECHFEST VIETNAM 2022 series of activities, on the afternoon of December 02, at the Provincial Convention and Exhibition Center, a Seminar on Digital Transformation - Smart Tourism - Breakthrough Solutions took place.

​At the Seminar, the delegates exchanged and discussed the concept and importance of smart tourism, the future development trend of the tourism industry as well as solutions to develop smart tourism in the 4.0 era.

Mr. Ly Dinh Quan - CEO Songhan Incubator, Head of FoodTech and Tourism Village of TECHFEST VIETNAM 2022 shared, currently, the domestic tourism industry is basically becoming a spearhead economic sector, creating a driving force for socio-economic development; has professionalism, has a relatively synchronous and modern system of material and technical foundations; high quality, diversified, branded tourism products imbued with national cultural identity, competitive with other countries in the region. However, Vietnam's tourism still has some weaknesses in terms of service quality, tourism environment, promotion and advertising. Therefore, developing smart tourism will contribute to limiting and overcoming these weaknesses.

Overview of the seminar

According to him, smart tourism contributes to improving the effectiveness of promotion through boosting digital tourism marketing; increasing the attractiveness of tourism products, improving the quality of tourists' experiences at the destination; improving the quality of tourism services, developing destinations; changing the mode, improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the State management of tourism through the development of applications to manage tourist destinations, enterprises, travel activities and accommodation establishments; supporting enterprises, especially innovative start-ups in technology application in the field of tourism.

He also analyzed the difference between e-travel and smart tourism, in which smart tourism stands out with the following advantages: Can affect the period before, during and after the trip; connecting the digital environment and the real experience; using sensor technology and smartphones; using big data and operating under an ecosystem structure that helps the level of frequent and active two-way interaction.

Sharing about the smart tourism digital ecosystem solution, Mr. Nguyen Quyet Tam - Chairman of the Board of Directors cum CEO of VietISO, member of the Digital Government Committee - Vinasa said that applying technology solutions in the field of tourism helps tourists find information, come up with ideas for travel to book and pay for services. For management agencies, it will be more convenient to capture information; Tourism enterprises can take advantage of technology to design products in the direction of increasing experience value as well as promoting products to visitors. Smart tourism is an inevitable development trend and is expressed in a very specific and practical way; thanks to technology, visitors can find out information about the intended destination, accommodation services, food, experience products, etc.

According to Nguyen Quyet Tam, smart tourism was born under the impact of the 4.0 technology revolution, especially the strong development of information and communication technology, has allowed to create more diversified products for the tourism industry. One of the breakthrough technology solutions applied in smart tourism development can be mentioned as ICT. This is a very important tool that turns ordinary travel experiences into enhanced experiences. In addition, smart tourism also uses technologies in Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Virtual Assistants, Big Data, Blockchain.

After the seminar, the delegates visited the exhibition booths and experienced technology application products related to tourism and food development.
