This is an important trade-investment event of ASEAN, organized for the first time after the Covid-19 pandemic, with the attendance of Victorian Government Trade Minister Martin Pakula and many Australian enterprises. Mr. Vo Van Minh - Chairman of Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee (PPC) led the provincial delegation to attend the event.
On this occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia also coordinated with the Binh Duong PPC and the Victorian government to organize the Vietnam Investment Forum on May 24, attracting the attendance of many Australian enterprises.
Speaking at the Forum, Chairman of Binh Duong PPC Vo Van Minh introduced the strengths of the province, especially in traffic, infrastructure, industrial park system and smart city. Notably, over the past 20 years, the province has always focused on developing industrial parks and now has more than 10 world-class industrial parks, attracting many large corporations in the world to open production and business facilities here. In the first 4 months of 2022 alone, the province has attracted 2.3 billion USD in foreign direct investment (FDI), ranking second after Ho Chi Minh City. Besides, Binh Duong has also established bilateral cooperation relations with 11 foreign provinces and cities and is an official member of international organizations, including the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF), the Asian Economic Cooperation Forum (Horasis) and the World Trade Center Association (WTCA).
Also at the Forum, Chairman of Binh Duong PPC Vo Van Minh and Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Nguyen Tat Thanh answered many questions from Australian enterprises about priorities and policies of Vietnam in general and of Binh Duong province in particular, especially related to the ability to support small and medium enterprises.

Signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Becamex IDC Corp and Commercial & General Group
On the morning of May 26, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony took place between Becamex IDC Corp and Commercial & General Group to explore cooperation opportunities between the two sides in the fields of investment, economic cooperation, healthcare projects, commercial development, integrated zones and industrial parks.
Tomorrow morning (May 27), the delegation continued to hold a conference on investment promotion in Sydney City.

The ASEAN-Australia Business Forum is held as ASEAN and Australia continue to strengthen their comprehensive strategic partnership. ASEAN is currently Australia's second largest trading partner with bilateral turnover reaching 113.7 billion AUD (more than 80 billion USD) in 2019-2020; investment from the two sides reached over 259 billion AUD in 2019 and over 242 billion AUD in 2020
In recent years, Australia has been a top destination for students from ASEAN countries, while ASEAN has become one of the important links in the global value chain, including Australia.
On this occasion, Ambassador Nguyen Tat Thanh also worked with Victorian Minister of Agriculture Mary Anne Thomas and attended the Pioneer Enterprise Roundtable organized by the Australia-Vietnam Policy Institute.

Speaking at the Forum, Victorian Trade Minister Martin Pakula welcomed the event and emphasized that ASEAN is right on the "doorstep" of Australia, an important export market of Victoria (reaching 3.4 billion AUD in 2020), of which the largest markets are: including Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand. Minister Pakula affirmed that ASEAN brings opportunities for Australian enterprises, especially in the food, software, service industries, etc.; committed to further expand trade and investment relations with ASEAN, including Vietnam.
Speaking at the forum, Ambassador Nguyen Tat Thanh highly appreciated Australia's continued diversification of markets, affirming that ASEAN is always ready to support Australian enterprises in implementing new initiatives and cooperation activities after the pandemic. The Ambassador Nguyen Tat Thanh suggested that Australia should increase investment in Southeast Asia, abolish visas for ASEAN countries and increase activities to demonstrate corporate social responsibility as well as humanitarian cooperation with the region.
