In 3 months, 2,762 traffic accidents occurred
According to the report, in the first quarter of 2022, there are many Tet holidays such as New Year's Day, Nham Dan Lunar New Year and Spring Festival taking place in many provinces and cities, but with the drastic direction of the Government and the active participation of Ministries, branches and localities, the situation of TOS was basically guaranteed. The number of cases, the number of deaths and the number of injured people continued to reduce compared to the same period in 2021. Specifically, nationwide, there were 2,762 traffic accidents (TA), killing 1,676 people and injuring 1,741 people. Over the same period, TA reduced by 662 cases (down 19.33%), 67 deaths (down 3.84%) and 739 injured people (down 29.80%).

There were 33 provinces and cities with a decrease in the number of deaths due to TA compared to the same period in 2022, of which 11 localities reduced the number of deaths by over 40%: Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc, Quang Binh, Ha Giang, Son La, Tra Vinh, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Can Tho, Ninh Thuan, Quang Tri. There were 24 localities with an increase in the number of deaths due to TA over the same period last year, of which 13 provinces and cities increased by more than 15%, including: Binh Duong, Bac Giang, Dong Thap, Hoa Binh, Long An, Dak Nong, Da Nang, Hau Giang, Yen Bai, Tay Ninh, Quang Ngai, Phu Tho, Dien Bien.
However, in the first quarter of 2022, a number of particularly serious TA occurred, killing and injuring many people, causing outrage in public opinion, typically the TA in Gia Lai on February 9, 2022 caused 06 deaths; the waterway TA in Quang Nam on February 26, 2022 killed 17 people, this is the most fatal traffic accident in the past few years. The number of deaths due to TA in March 2022 increased over the same period.
There have been 14 cases of prolonged traffic jams nationwide, caused by TA, the volume of vehicles participating in traffic has increased dramatically, due to road construction, etc. The situation of gathering, driving in groups, showing signs of illegal racing is still complicated in some provinces and cities. The situation of violations of vehicle load on roads recurs in many localities.
Mr. Khuat Viet Hung - Executive Vice Chairman of National TS Committee said that in the second quarter of 2022, the TOS assurance focuses on reviewing and assessing the current status of traffic routes to develop a plan for traffic organization by route, dealing with "black spots", complicated traffic routes, potentially causing TA; propagating the law on TOS to raise the self-consciousness of road users, concentrated in transport business units, enterprises, industrial parks with a large number of workers, universities, colleges and vocational training schools. Especially opening a peak period to ensure TOS during the holidays of April 30 and May 01, 2022. Police units and localities increase patrolling, control and handling of TOS violations, distributing the flow, and ensuring TOS to serve SEAGAMES 31 held in Vietnam.
Binh Duong: Efforts to reduce TA
In the first quarter of 2022, Binh Duong Provincial TS Committee focused on implementing the instructions of the National TS Committee and the Provincial People's Committee to districts, towns, cities and member units; developed and implemented the Plan for Traffic Safety Year 2022. The situation of TOS during the peak periods of New Year's Day and Lunar New Year in association with pandemic prevention and control is ensured.

From December 15, 2021 to March 14, 2022, the province had 143 TA, killing 72 people, injuring 103 people, and damaging 223 vehicles. Compared with the same period in 2021, it has reduced 102 cases (down 41.63%); increased 10 deaths (up 16.13%) and reduced 132 injured people (down 56.17%). No TA on railways and inland waterways occurred.
At the same time, the province has focused on implementing synchronous solutions to overcome traffic jams, in which continued to implement the pilot plan to distribute the traffic flow by hour, by route for some sections on National Highway 13, DT.747, DT.743, My Phuoc - Tan Van road, Huynh Van Cu street, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai street, etc. Thanks to that, the traffic congestion has been gradually overcome, but there are still some local congestion due to TA, damaged cars on the road, traffic lights not working due to power outages, etc.
In the coming time, branches and levels will continue to promote the implementation of the direction of the Central and the province on ensuring TOS and overcoming traffic jams. Speeding up and improving the quality of investment in construction and upgrading of traffic infrastructure in association with maintenance and repair to ensure TS, etc.

Concluding the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van The suggested that localities with increased TA in the first quarter have in-depth reports, specifically assess the causes and effective solutions to overcome and reduce them. Organizing an inspection team of the National TS Committee in some localities where there is a complicated situation of violating the regulations on the load of cargo cars on the road or a high number of deaths due to TA in the first 3 months of 2022.
In the coming time, along with promoting the propaganda, dissemination and education of the law on TOS, continuing to review and deal with newly arising black spots and potential points of TA; increasing patrolling, control and handling violations of the law on TOS by road users. The Minister suggested localities to take drastic action to reduce TA, striving to achieve the goal of reducing all three criteria by 5-10% in terms of the number of cases, the number of deaths and the number of injured people.
