Also in attendance were Mr. Nguyen Van Loc - Member of Provincial Standing Party Committee, Head of Commission for Mass Mobilization of Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front and leaders of departments, committees, branches, and the Provincial Association of the Elderly.
The Provincial Association of the Elderly's representative gave general information about the process of formation, development, organizational form and activities of the Association. Specifically, the entire province now has 09 district-level associations of the elderly, 91 Grassroots associations, 590 Branch associations and 2,618 Group associations. Membership development is focused; during the tenure, it has developed 21,015 members (more than 9,275 members in the previous tenure).
During the last tenure, the Associations of the Elderly at all levels have always paid attention to coordinate in taking care of the elderly in terms of material, mental and physical health, contributing to well implementing social security policies of the Party and the government.
The Grassroots associations have actively coordinated with the Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs branch to supervise the implementation of the monthly social protection regime for beneficiaries of the elderly at the rate of 400,000 VND/month (higher than the level prescribed by the Central Government). The work of wishing and celebrating the elderly's life at the prescribed age is carefully organized by the Associations at all levels in coordination with the authorities.
Overview of the meeting
During the holidays, Tet and traditional days of the Elderly in Vietnam, the Associations at all levels have early plans to mobilize resources to give gifts to the elderly in difficult circumstances. Gratitude visits to elderly members who are sick, accident, deceased or in difficult circumstances have always been well taken care of by the Grassroots association and Branch associations. With the mobilization of socialization, in the past 5 years, the Association built and donated 79 houses of love for the poor and near-poor elderly, worth nearly 05 billion VND. Currently, the entire province has no elderly people living in temporary houses.
To increase resources to take care of the elderly, the Association has coordinated with the Commune People's Committee to establish 82 Funds to care for and promote the role of the elderly in 82/91 communes, wards and towns. To support the elderly in difficult circumstances to have more conditions to stabilize their lives, Binh Duong has built 62 Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs in 53/91 communes, wards and towns with 3,465 members.
At the same time, over the past 5 years, the Association has coordinated with the Health branch to organize annual health checks for 112,306 elderly people and set up initial health management books for 56,545 elderly people. In order to improve the spiritual life of the elderly, all levels of the Association have built and developed 619 Clubs of the Elderly with different types, attracting nearly 14,000 elderly people to regularly come to activities, creating a useful playground, bringing a joyful and healthy atmosphere.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly's Central Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh highly appreciated the results achieved in socio-economic development as well as the facilitation, concern and care for the elderly in Binh Duong province during the past time. At the same time, he emphasized, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly's Central Committee will deeply absorb the comments and suggestions of Binh Duong province to draw experience, advise and develop strategies, policies and decisions for the elderly.
