PORTAL - On the morning of December 22, in Thu Dau Mot City, Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communications, Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee organized a Conference to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in approaching digital transformation. The conference was televised live and online.

Representatives of Associations and enterprises attended online.

Digital transformation - the inevitable trend of enterprises

Binh Duong is one of the provinces located in the Southern key economic region, with vibrant economic activities with more than 53,000 domestic enterprises registered to operate, most of which are SMEs. During the past time, the province has synchronously and effectively implemented policies to support SMEs according to the provisions of the Law on Support for SMEs and related documents, creating a favorable investment and business environment, creating conditions to improve the competitiveness of SMEs in the province. A part of SMEs has gradually implemented digital transformation as a natural need in order to meet the changing needs of customers, increase operational efficiency as well as save costs, especially in response to difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Overview of the conference

However, the digital transformation in SMEs only stops at basic levels such as marketing, selling online, using accounting software, e-invoicing, tax declaration, online insurance, internal communication via social networking applications, etc. Very few SMEs implement comprehensive digital transformation in corporate governance. Some difficulties and barriers in the digital transformation process of enterprises are due to the high cost of digital transformation, the need to change business habits and practices, as well as the lack of internal human resources and digital infrastructure. Besides, many enterprises do not know where to start, how to do digital transformation and which partners to choose to deploy digital transformation.

Therefore, the Conference was organized to promote the application of information technology and digital transformation in enterprises; support enterprises to find opportunities to expand markets, build a partner ecosystem through activities and production methods based on digital technologies. From there, helping SMEs in the province to access technology solutions, change business models according to the trend of digital transformation.

At the conference, delegates shared that the Covid-19 pandemic and its consequences are one of the biggest challenges for enterprises in the current period. Since the beginning of the year until now, the pandemic has negatively affected production and business activities of enterprises, with orders dropping sharply and costs increasing, causing many enterprises to stop operating, insolvent and on the verge of bankruptcy, especially SMEs.
