The Education and Training branch is consistent with the goal of educational innovation

​PORTAL - On August 20, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) in collaboration with the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education held a teleconference summarizing the 1-year implementation of the innovation of general education curriculum and textbooks (hereinafter referred to as the 2018 GE Curriculum).

​​The conference was chaired by Mr. Nguyen Dac Vinh - Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education; Mr. Nguyen Kim Son - Minister of MOET.

At Binh Duong bridge point, there were leaders of the Department of Education and Training (ET); departments, branches and educational institutions in the province.

Students are bolder, more confident

After 1 year of implementing the National Assembly's Resolutions on innovating the GE Curriculum, the outstanding result is that the MOET has issued the overall 2018 GE Curriculum and the curriculum of subjects. Up to now, there have been 05 publishers participating in compiling and submitting for appraisal 05 sets of grade 1 textbooks and 03 sets of grade 2 textbooks, and 03 sets of grade 6 textbooks with full of subjects and educational activities according to the 2018 GE Curriculum to ensure quality approved by the MOET; has completed training for teachers and key managers on guiding the implementation of the 2018 GE Curriculum and is implementing mass teacher training, giving priority to training 100% of teachers in grades 1, 2, and 6 before the start of the new school year.

The report summarizing results after 1 year of implementation shows that the new GE Curriculum of the MOET has achieved positive results in many aspects, from management to training.

Schools have focused on innovating school management and administration in the direction of promoting the initiative, flexibility and autonomy and creativity of professional teams and teachers in the implementation of the new curriculum. At the same time, exploiting and using textbooks, learning resources and teaching equipment effectively and practically; flexibly applying teaching methods and forms to develop students' abilities and qualities. The coordination between the school, parents and relevant agencies and organizations in the locality in organizing the implementation of the school's educational plan is well done.

Overall assessment, after the initial confusion, the educational plan has been ensured to properly distribute the educational contents, helping students complete the learning tasks and the curriculum's requirements. Students are facilitated to study elective subjects and participate in educational activities to achieve the goal of comprehensive education in primary school. The timetable has been arranged scientifically, ensuring a reasonable ratio between teaching contents and educational activities, reasonably allocating duration, time in the school day and the school week in accordance with the psychophysiology of primary school students.

Summary of results from localities on the results of the end-of-year assessment for the 2020-2021 school year shows that all primary schools have completed the curriculum as planned. The quality of students in grade 1 is guaranteed according to the output standards and curriculum's requirements, with some outstanding aspects compared to the current curriculum. Students are bolder and more confident, dare to express their views, know how to express their views through the lesson; are basically fluent in reading and writing in the first semester and are strengthened steadily in the second semester.

In the 2021-2022 school year, the new curriculum will continue to be implemented with grades 2 and 6.

The new GE Curriculum of the MOET has achieved positive results in many aspects

Speaking to direct at the conference, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education Nguyen Dac Vinh highly appreciated the results in the implementation of Resolution 88/2014/QH13 of the National Assembly on the GE Curriculum. He suggested that the MOET should focus on evaluation to improve the curriculum framework; pay more attention to the inspection and assessment of educational quality and the stability for many years of textbooks, avoiding waste.

Minister of MOET Nguyen Kim Son emphasized, looking back at the one-year implementation of the new GE Curriculum, it can be affirmed that the educational innovation orientation proposed by the Party, National Assembly and Government is completely correct, achieving important goals in the first step. In the coming time, the MOET will continue to be consistent with the goal of educational innovation on the basis of enhancing the creativity of teachers and students, giving priority to "teaching people", promoting the capacity of students.

Binh Duong innovates its approach

As for the ET branch of Binh Duong province, over the past time, it has always received the close attention and direction of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, Provincial People's Committee and the active coordination and support of departments, committees, branches and mass organizations in mobilizing social resources for investment in ET development, especially investment in facilities to prepare for teaching grade 1.

Primary schools in the province are fully equipped with classrooms and function rooms, ensuring 80% of teaching 2 sessions/day. Most classrooms teaching in grade 1 are equipped with projectors or smart interactive boards, which is convenient for teachers to apply information technology and innovate teaching methods, and well implement the new textbook curriculum.

Although the organization of training for grade 1 textbooks faced difficulties due to the Covid-19 prevention and control, however, the grade 1 teachers are still fully and timely trained in the content and methods of teaching new textbooks, and are enthusiastic in their work.

In addition, leaders of the ET branch regularly pay attention to monitor, check, attend to, and advise teachers in teaching the 2018 GE curriculum in the direction of enhancing the initiative and flexibility in teaching and learning organization in accordance with the curriculum's goals, contents and actual students in order to help students achieve the requirements according to the curriculum's goals set out.  

At the beginning of the implementation of the 2018 GE Curriculum, parents and public opinion also had many reflections. The Department of ET has directed schools to do well in communication, innovating teaching methods, and actively changing teaching materials accordingly. Thereby, teachers and students quickly caught up and gained trust from parents and society.

Innovating the approach, inspiring and guiding the development of students

Currently, teachers have quite well grasped the content and teaching methods according to the 2018 GE Curriculum. Initially grasping differentiated teaching, integrated teaching, knowing how to apply teaching methods and techniques in the direction of developing students' quality and capacity. The ability to apply information technology in teaching has been improved, and at the same time, there is a sense of self-research and self-study to improve professional qualifications to meet the innovation trend. Awareness of the innovation situation is also more fully received by all managers, teachers, students and parents; in particular, the cooperation between students' parents and teachers in education is constantly being strengthened.

Up to this point, the implementation of the 2018 GE Curriculum for Grade 1 in the province has had certain successes. The teachers all assessed that the students made some progress, both in acquiring knowledge and in forming and developing other necessary capacities and qualities.

Summarizing the experiences in the past 1 year, the ET branch of Binh Duong province will focus more on the innovation of GE management and primary school administration to manage and direct the school appropriate to the actual situation and conditions; create all the most favorable conditions for teachers to take the initiative in organizing and implementing teaching from equipping facilities, teaching equipment, fostering and training, etc. especially the system of equipment to apply information technology in teaching. At the same time, it is necessary to accompany teachers in implementing the innovation of ccurriculum and textbooks in order to promptly find out the shortcomings and difficulties, from there to support, advise and remove with teachers; motivate teachers to perform well in teaching and education.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhat Hang - Director of Binh Duong Department of ET shared that the effectiveness of the new GE Curriculum depends greatly on the capacity of teachers, so the teachers have to "change themselves" to adapt. Teachers must be able to identify the issues that need to be innovated, which are objectives, content, teaching methods, means and forms of organization and assessment. At the same time, they must change thinking and approach to problems, need to become an inspiration and guide for students' development; pay attention to the needs and abilities of each individual student in the class to maximize the positivity, initiative, creativity and application of knowledge; focus on teaching how to learn, how to think, encouraging self-study, creating a basis for students to update and renew knowledge, skills, and capacity development.
