BEGIC - On the morning of June 5, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has cooperated with Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises to organize an online conference "Supporting small and medium enterprises". Mr. Tran Tuan Anh - Minister of Industry and Trade presided over the conference.

At the Binh Duong bridge point, attending the conference were leaders, officials of some departments and branches.

With the theme "Supporting small and medium-sized enterprises" (referred to as SMEs) to take advantage of opportunities, effectively implement the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the European Union (referred to as EVFTA Agreement), the conference focused on 05 issues: Strategic benefits and considerations for Vietnamese SMEs when implementing EVFTA Agreement; potential goods and items of Vietnam and the orientation to boost exports to the market; the role of local governments at all levels in assisting local SMEs in thoroughly grasping and effectively implementing EVFTA; orient trade promotion activities to support SMEs to effectively exploit the opportunities provided by EVFTA; share of SMEs on taking advantage of opportunities and preventing challenges from EVFTA.

Earlier, on March 30, 2020, the Council of Europe adopted the EVFTA Agreement. As expected, on June 8, 2020, the National Assembly will vote to approve the Resolution approving EVFTA Agreement. With this agreement, Viet Nam became the only developing country in the world to have a Free Trade Agreement with the European Union (EU) - the second largest import market in the world and currently the second largest export market of Viet Nam (after the US). Through the Agreement, Viet Nam can access potential markets with a population of over 500 million people, GDP of about USD 15,000 billion (accounting for 22% of global GDP).

The EVFTA Agreement is expected to increase Viet Nam's exports to the EU by 42.7% in 2025 and 44.37% in 2030, focusing on agricultural products; processing and manufacturing sector; service sector. Now, with the implementation of EVFTA, Vietnamese businesses will have the opportunity to access new supply chains to replace traditional supply chains that have been disrupted or stalled by the Covid-19 pandemic recently.
