Ba Bo canal is located in Binh Chieu ward, Thu Duc district, Ho Chi Minh city. This is the drainage canal of rainwater and waste water of the basin of Binh Chieu and Linh Trung ward, Thu Duc district, Ho Chi Minh city; Dong An quarter, Binh Hoa ward, Thuan An town and Tan Long quarter, Tan Dong Hiep ward and part of Di An ward, Di An town, Binh Duong province. Of which, the drainage basin in Binh Duong province into Ba Be canal is about 1,000 hectares; total discharge of wastewater in Binh Duong province is 18.900-20.100m3/day in Ba Be canal, mainly from wastewater after treatment of Song Than 1 and Song Than 2 Industrial Zones; wastewater from residential areas along the canal, some land rental services of Corps no.4.

Prior to 2008, Ba Bo canal was heavily polluted, the level of organic pollutants exceeds 10 times. Binh Duong province and Ho Chi Minh City have taken measures to address the pollution situation in Ba Bo canal, as a result, the quality of Ba Bo canal water and environmental landscape has been improved, the level of organic pollutants has decreased by more than 80%. According to the results of water quality monitoring on Ba Bo canal at the end of 2016, Ammonium content exceeded standards from 17 to 23 times, COD content exceeded standard 2,6-8,3 times. Results of monitoring the quality of Ba Bo canal water in the first 6 months of 2017 showed that, the water quality on Ba Bo canal has not much improved.
Given the above situation, Binh Duong province and Ho Chi Minh City need to strengthen the coordination of control and treatment of pollution of Ba Bo canal in 2017-2018 period. The coordination work focuses on groups of solutions to manage, control and thoroughly treat sources of waste into Ba Bo canal.
