This is the 12th International conference's special session of Eastern Asia Society For Transportation Studies, which takes place from September 18th to 21st 2017 in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong province. Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son - Deputy Minister of Public Security, Deputy Head of National Traffic Safety Board; Mr. Khuat Viet Hung - Deputy Head of the National Traffic Safety Board; Mr. Tran Thanh Liem - Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Binh Duong People's Committee, Head of Provincial Traffic Safety Committee and members of provincial People's Committee; Leaders of Binh Duong provincial departments, agencies; representatives of the Traffic Safety Committees of provinces and cities, specialists, scientists of universities and research institutes in and outside the country attended the conference.
At the conference, delegates discussed the most urgent issues in the field of transportation and traffic safety in Vietnam such as traffic management; infrastructure and transport organization; respond after traffic accident; solutions to ensure traffic safety, reduce traffic accidents... In particular, Binh Duong province has made important speeches on visions, challenges and short-term, long-term solutions for Binh Duong transportation in the direction of sustainable development, which focuses on the application of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) in urban traffic management in Binh Duong province. Accordingly, from the experience of domestic and foreign cities, ITS applications for urban traffic management in Binh Duong include: traffic management center, signaling system, visual traffic monitoring system, traffic violation handling system, traffic data collection system, advanced traffic information systems and public transport support systems.

Speaking at the conference, Chairman of Binh Duong People's Committee Tran Thanh Liem emphasized, in the current context and mechanism, building a secure transport system for a smart metropolis is a relatively new issue with many challenges. He hoped, the conference will find feasible and practical solutions to build a safe and suitable transportation system in Binh Duong province, which meet the requirements of smart urban development in the coming time.

Vietnam Traffic Safety Conference is organized annually to announce exchange and discuss scientific research results, national and international practices, the ability to apply results and experiences to achieve the objectives about traffic safety in Vietnam. The conference has an important role to play in synthesizing research results and practical experiences to help the Government of Vietnam develop projects, policies, strategies and plans to ensure traffic safety in both short and long term.
