BEGIC - Early September 14, a high-ranking delegation from Singapore, led by Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Defence paid a courtesy visit to provincial leaders on the occasion of the 20th founding anniversary of Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP).

Tran Van Nam, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of provincial Party Committee, Head of provincial NA delegation and Tran Thanh Liem, Vice-Secretary of provincial Party Committee, Chairman of provincial People’s Committee together with some other leaders received the delegation.

At the reception, Mr.Nam briefly informed the delegation of Binh Duong’s socio-economic performance over the past years. The province has so far lured more than 2,700 FDI projects from 49 countries and territories around the world with a total investment capital of more than US$25bilion. The VSIP model, which was developed in 1996 on the basis of cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore, has reached good results. The whole country now has a total of 7 VSIPs, absorbing more than 600 projects capitalized at more than US$9billion. Possibly speaking, this is an outstanding model in IP development and construction in Vietnam.

At present, the province actively develops hi-tech human resources to promote VSIPs, focuses on industrial-service-urban development towards civilized and modern urban development in order to become a centrally-controlled municipality by 2020. The province is also organizing a cooperation model between State agencies, businesses and institutes to step by step build up a smart city in the future.

Mr.Nam stressed that the ceremony celebrating the 20th founding anniversary of VSIP is an event to mark a new step for bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore. Binh Duong believes that the Government of Singapore and the Deputy Prime Minister will further promote the bilateral cooperation in the coming time.

He affirmed that the relations between Vietnam and Singapore over the past time were very good, especially in economic development. Singaporean investors have spoken highly of Binh Duong’s investment climate. He also asserted that Singapore will closely work with leaders of Vietnam, Binh Duong and VSIP Joint Venture Company, ensuring VSIPs to continue flying in the future.

On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister also invited provincial leaders to attend the 2016 Asian conference on network security to be held in Singapore in October ahead.
