Prof. Dr. Jürgen Mallon, President of VGU reported that after seven year since the establishment, the university is now offering 11 training programs in which there are 7 master programs and 4 bachelor programs on majors such as science – technology, information technology, business administration, etc.

In the 2015 - 16 academic year there are 1100 students enrolled at the university now. It is planned to have some 5,000 and 12,000 students in 2020, and 2030 respectively.
The school is part of a Vietnamese plan, the “New Model University Project,” to build world-class universities in Vietnam. With a total funding of $200 million, including a $180 million lending package from the World Bank (WB) and a corresponding fund worth $20 million from the Vietnamese government, Vietnamese – German University is located in Ben Cat town, Binh Duong province with a total area of 50.5 hectatres.
English is the teaching language at the school. All students at undergraduate level have the chance to learn German while doing their main subject. This allows an optimal entry into a German or international working environment.

Speaking at the working session, President Truong Tan Sang stated that VGU was one of five education projects that Viet Nam has cooperated with the U.K., France, Germany, the U.S. and Japan on the new model university. He demanded the school’s presidential board to work closely with the Ministry of Education and Training so that the project could finish before the year 2019. The school should provide international-standard training for not only local students but also those from other Southeast Asian countries.
