​PORTAL - On the morning of September 28, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the Ministry of Health to organize a teleconference summarizing the National Program on the Control and Elimination of Rabies in the 2017-2021 period, commenting on the draft National Program on the Control and Elimination of Rabies for the 2022-2030 period.

As reported, thanks to the implementation of many synchronous solutions, the National Program on the Control and Elimination of Rabies in the 2017-2021 period has achieved some outstanding results. From 2017 to August 2021, the entire country recorded 378 deaths from rabies in 52/63 provinces and cities; down 15% compared to the 2012-2016 period. At the same time, there were no serious outbreaks of rabies in animals. The capacity to supervise, investigate and handle rabies epidemics has been significantly improved. The percentage of dogs vaccinated against rabies increased from 38.5% to 49.2%. Reducing 30% in the number of provinces with high risk of rabies; there were 14 rabies safe zones including: Ho Chi Minh City and 13 districts and cities of Hanoi, Da Nang, Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau. People's awareness about rabies was raised, the number of people bitten by dogs voluntarily going for preventive treatment increased by 21%.

In order to achieve the common goal of controlling rabies in domestic dogs and cats and to strive for zero deaths from rabies by 2030, many technical and management solutions have been proposed, in which awareness raising communication, management strengthening, vaccination promotion and proactive periodic sampling are still key.

Also at the conference, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a Rally to respond to World Rabies Day (September 28).

In Binh Duong, in the 2017-2020 period, the province recorded 01 case of rabies in domestic dogs in Phu Giao district, which has been treated, controlled, and has not yet spread to humans. The rate of rabies vaccination for domestic dogs is on average about 83% of the total number of dogs listed. The province has 01 locality recognized as a rabies safe zone, which is Thu Dau Mot City.
