Speaking to open the conference, the Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that the EU is always a market with strict requirements on quality and high standards for goods and services, where there is no place for enterprises that lack persistence, are not innovative, and have poor quality goods. Therefore, EVFTA opens up opportunities for Vietnam to renew its growth model, motivate Vietnamese enterprises to upgrade themselves, accept new, harder rules to go deeper, and advance to the stages with higher value in the supply chain, distribution chain of the EU and global. With a commitment to opening the market strongly and eliminating import tax up to nearly 100% of the EU tariff schedule, EVFTA is expected to open up opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises, helping to increase exports to the EU by about 42% in 2025 and nearly 45% in 2030 compared with the scenario without agreement and increase FDI attraction to Vietnam.

EVFTA is expected to assist Vietnam and the EU to step up efforts to restore the economy severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic which is still complicated. The Prime Minister suggested Ministries, branches, localities and enterprise community should take specific and practical actions to implement this agreement in the most effective way.

At the conference, the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade presented an overview of the Government's EVFTA Implementation Plan and the issues that Ministries, branches and localities need to pay attention to ensure effective implementation of EVFTA. Accordingly, the Government's EVFTA Implementation Plan focuses on five major groups of work, including: Propaganda and dissemination of information about EVFTA Agreement and markets of the EU countries; legal and institutional development; measures to improve competitiveness and develop human resources; guidelines and policies for the Trade Union and employees' organizations at the enterprises; policy of social security, environmental protection and sustainable development. Representatives of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and localities gave presentations on the preparation for EVFTA implementation.

Also at the conference, representatives of associations and enterprises expressed their opinions as well as proposed related issues, directly affecting the effectiveness of the implementation of the agreement.
