Unite to overcome difficulties, complete socio-economic development targets

​BEGIC - That is the speech of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at online Conference with localities to evaluate the socio-economic situation in the first 6 months of the year and deploy missions in the last 6 months of 2020, taking place on July 2, in Hanoi. Attending the Conference were Deputy Prime Ministers, leaders of Ministries, committees, agencies, localities.

At the Binh Duong Bridge Point, attending were Mr. Tran Van Nam - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Mr. Tran Thanh Liem - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Vo Van Minh - Chairman of Provincial People's Council and leaders of departments, committees, agencies.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that early prevention of the Covid-19 pandemic created an important premise for socio-economic development. The world highly appreciated the results of our nation's pandemic prevention. This was a great success for the entire Party, army and people. "Despite the low growth, in such an international context, we need to be calm, proactive and firm in our judgment and assessment of the situation, not subjective but absolutely not pessimistic", the Prime Minister emphasized. Recalling the "dual target", not letting the pandemic come back, erasing the efforts strived, not for the economy, but for the disease to affect the people's lives, health and socio-economic development, ensuring to grow, The Prime Minister emphasized the spirit of solidarity, cooperation and determination to overcome difficulties, creativity, and closely in the management direction to achieve the socio-economic development targets.

The Prime Minister directed, in the coming time, Ministries, agencies and localities should focus on reforming processes and procedures for enterprises to access support policies in a simple, convenient and timely manner. Besides, accelerate the disbursement of public investment; improve the production capacity of the economy; continue to implement drastically and synchronously solutions to prevent and control Covid-19 pandemic; reduce pork price contributing to control inflation; stimulate investment in manufacturing enterprises for export to proactively source of goods; manage monetary policy, interest rates, exchange rates flexibly and appropriately; support production and business and promote economic growth.

According to the report, the economy in the first 6 months only reached 1.81%, the lowest level in the past 10 years but in current context, this is a decent growth compared to other countries in the region and around the world. Large economic balances were guaranteed. Export surplus reached USD 4 billion, of which domestic economic export was quite high, up to 11.7%. The total social investment capital in the first 6 months of 2020 is estimated at VND 850.3 trillion, up 3.4% over the same period in 2019 and equal to 33% of GDP. The added value of industry sector increased by 2.71%.

However, in the first months of 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic seriously affected trade and service activities. The service sector in 6 months reached the lowest increase of the same period of years 2011-2020. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the second quarter of 2020 decreased by 5.8% compared to the previous quarter; estimated to decrease by 0.8% in the first 6 months compared to the same period in 2019. International visitors to Vietnam were estimated at 3,744,500 arrivals, down 55.8% over the same period, etc.

Presenting at the conference, Chairman of Binh Duong provincial People's Committee Tran Thanh Liem informed a number of socio-economic indicators of the province in the first 6 months of 2020. The Binh Duong provincial economy had an openness and international integration, so it was affected much by the pandemic. The total products of the province, the index of industrial production, the total retail sales of goods and revenue of services, exports and imports increased but lower than the same period. However, Binh Duong committed to accompany the Government and localities in the country to strive to complete the targets set by 2020.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also informed more about the case reported by the media about an Indonesian citizen working in Binh Duong suspected of being infected with Covid-19: This citizen entered Vietnam on March 11, 2020, stayed in Ben Cat, worked at an enterprise in Bau Bang Industrial Park (20 km away from the residence). Until this morning (July 2, 2020), the Ministry of Health officially announced that the test at Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City was negative. Thus far, no positive cases have been detected in the province.​
