Binh Duong strengthens capacity to test, collect and treat Covid-19 patients

​PORTAL - Facing the complicated situation of the pandemic, Binh Duong promptly took strong and drastic measures to prevent, control the pandemic in the most effective way. In addition, the province has also improved its capacity to test, collect and treat Covid-19 patients to both prevent the spread of the pandemic and ensure the health of the people.

​​As reported by the Health branch, Binh Duong province currently has 12 RT-PCR machines, with the capacity to test 8,000 individual samples/day (equivalent to 80,000 samples pooled 10/day); is currently implementing socialization of testing to improve capacity to over 100,000 individual samples/day (equivalent to 1,000,000 people if samples are pooled); has established 450 mobile sampling teams (equivalent to 450 sampling tables, each table can collect 300 samples/day, maximum 135,000 samples/day) and mobilized the entire medical staff, including private medical facilities, medical training schools, and students of Hanoi Medical University to ensure rapid sampling on a large scale.

With a maximum sampling capacity of 176,000 people/day (about every 30 minutes for results), it can be rapidly tested for about 88,000 people/day. However, in fact, only about 30,000/person/day can be sampled; therefore, only community screening samples have been taken in all high-risk areas for more than 150,000 people to date.

Taking samples for Covid-19 screening tests in the community

The province currently has 65 concentrated quarantine facilities, of which 03 are hotels; before the 4th pandemic wave, the capacity was 4,000 beds; currently raised to 20,000 beds, can be expanded to 30,000 beds when needed. Currently is quarantining more than 9,598 F1 cases; with the situation of cases and the number of F1s continuing to increase, especially at companies and enterprises, the province has piloted the implementation of low-risk F1 quarantine at home and quarantine at companies and factories if the prescribed conditions are met.

The number of beds in the province currently has enough capacity to treat about 2,400 people, of which: there are 1,540 beds of 08 newly established Covid-19 patient treatment areas and a treatment area has been established at the Dormitory of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (in Di An area) with a capacity of about 1,000 beds. The Provincial People's Committee has approved a Field hospital at the World Trade Center New City (WTC), Hung Vuong Street, Hoa Phu Ward, Thu Dau Mot City, with a size of about 1,500 beds, expected to be put into operation on July 18, 2021; Student start-up workshop (under the campus of Eastern International University, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia street, Hoa Phu ward, Thu Dau Mot city) has a scale of about 1,500 beds. Thus, the province's existing treatment capacity is about 6,000 beds.

Based on the direction of the Head of the 7th Military Region Command, the Provincial Military Command is coordinating with the Department of Health to deploy the Infectious Field Hospital No. 5B/Ministry of Defense with a scale of 500 beds in Defense Education Center, Military Command of Binh Duong Province.

The province also approved the area for treatment of severe patients and intensive care at campus 2 of the Provincial General Hospital (in Phu Chanh Ward, Tan Uyen Town) with a scale of 200 beds; ready arranged facilities such as: 38 oxygen heads, ventilators, hemodialysis machines, ultrasound machines at the bed, X-rays at the bed, etc. for the quarantine area.

The province also reviewed the research to use Becamex Hospital with 200 beds to treat severe patients, which is enough to meet the province's treatment conditions in the current situation; if necessary arrange an additional 100 beds for treatment of severe patients.

In order to facilitate testing and get the fastest results, it is agreed to place the machines of Viet A Testing Center at 02 locations: the Medical Center of Ben Cat Town and Hoa Lan crossroads, Thuan Giao Ward, City Thuan An. In the absence of medical human resources, options for requisitioning and mobilizing more forces from retired health staff and private medical forces to support pandemic prevention and control.

The Provincial Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Health branch also consider funding sources to support the purchase of 06 testing machines to serve in the Covid-19 pandemic testing.

According to the Health branch, in the coming time, the pandemic situation is still very complicated, especially the risk of spreading among workers in industrial parks, clusters, and boarding houses, it is forecasted that up to 5,000 patients could be infected. Therefore, Binh Duong proposed the Ministry of Health to support equipment, ventilators and human resources: doctors and nurses for treatment. Currently, there is a need for 500 medical staff, doctors and nurses. The establishment of a field hospital in Binh Duong is supported by the Ministry of National Defense and the 7th Military Region.
