PORTAL – On May 25th, at Binh Duong Provincial Administration Center, Mr. Mai Hung Dung - Member of Provincial Standing Party Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the Conference to summarize the work of natural disaster prevention, control and search and rescue in 2020; and launch tasks in 2021.
According to the report, in 2020, there were 23 natural disasters in the province, resulting in 02 minor injuries, blown roofs, damages to 69 houses, domestic water shortage for 200 households, damages to nearly 160 hectares of crops and fruit trees; over 5,000m of inner roads under flooding, etc. Property damages were estimated at over 5 billion VND, which is lower than in 2019 (in 2019: about 19.43 billion VND). Particularly from the beginning of 2021 to May 18th, 2021, there were 03 rains with whirlwinds in the province, which injured 03 persons, collapsed 08 houses, blew off the roofs of 443 houses; destroyed 4,300ha of rubber, fruit trees and crops; caused domestic water shortage for 230 households.
Overview of the conference
The post-disaster recovery and reconstruction was carried out in a timely, public and transparent manner by the province, under close supervision from the grassroots level in accordance with regulations and high consensus from the people. Total funds in 2020 was 23.76 billion VND; localities supported 1,054 households to repair houses, auxiliary works and restore production after natural disasters.
In 2021, the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue will coordinate with other departments to handle situations of natural disasters, fires and explosions, forest fires and ensure safety, overcome consequences and limit natural disasters; inspect and promptly handle incidents for irrigation and disaster prevention works, etc. At the same time, the Committee shall focus on implementing the four on-spot motto (on-the-spot command; on-the-spot forces; on-the-spot vehicles and materials and on-the-spot logistics) in disaster prevention and search and rescue; strengthen capacity, command work, ensure adequate forces, means and supplies on the spot, logistics to be ready for search and rescue when natural disasters occur, promote the application of science and technology in disaster prevention, etc.

Speaking at the conclusion of the conference, Mr. Mai Hung Dung requested that in 2021, it is necessary to continue consolidating the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, strengthen the disaster prevention and combat teams at the grassroots; improve the capacity of the task force and the people's awareness in disaster prevention. Localities are requested to promptly provide relief to the people after natural disasters; Review and evaluate landslide areas affecting production, infrastructure works and roads in order to develop remedial plans.
