Viet Nam - Oregon Initiatives
BEGIC - Celebrating the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and the United States, on April 22, at Lucky Square Convention Center (Binh Duong New City) Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee co-organized with Portland State University (the United States of America) to hold the program "Viet Nam - Oregon Initiatives (VOI)".
  
Mr. Tran Van Nam, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party's Committee, Chairman of The Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Lai Thai Binh, Deputy Head of American Affairs Department, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ms. Rena Bitter, Consul General of the United States of America in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Phil Keisling, Chair of VOI Executive Steering Committee; and representatives of business associations operating in Binh Duong Province and Ho Chi Minh City attended the program.
 
During the program, Mr. Phil Keisling, Chairman of Vietnam-Oregon Initiative Executive Steering Committee introduced “Viet Nam – Oregon Initiatives”, Cooperation Between Oregon State & Viet Nam. Prof. Dr. Marcus Ingle, Portland State University presented Public Innovation and Governance: Oregon and Binh Duong. Ms.Joyce Hamilla, Director of International Partnerships at PSU made presentation on PSU Vietnam Scholarship Program. Mr. Mai Hung Dung, Director of the Department of Planning and Investment briefly introduced the provincial socio-economic development status in recent years and potential, opportunities when investing in Binh Duong. Mr. Nathan Lane, Director of Economic Department, the Consulate General of the United States of America in Ho Chi Minh presented on The Trans-Pacific Partnership: Opportunities and Challenges.

The Vietnam-Oregon Initiative is a collaborative network founded to foster and deepen partnerships between Vietnamese and Oregon entities spanning the government, academic, business, and military sectors.
 
The mission of VOI is to boost the comprehensive relations between Viet Nam and Oregon state, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-US ties. 
  
At the program, Chairman Tran Van Nam emphasized that the principal purpose of the VOI’s introduction in southern region is to speed up cooperative and investment partnerships between the province and the US state, while developing a cooperative network among Vietnamese individuals and organizations and Oregon in economics-trade, education-training, and public management.
 
 
The United States is currently ranked 7 over 101 countries and territories investing in Viet Nam with 712 projects, total registered capital of US$10.5 billion in which there are large companies such as Intel, Nike, Pepsi-Cola, Chevron, etc.
 
Within Binh Duong, the United States is the seventh largest among 39 countries and territories with investment projects in the province with 80 projects, total capital of over US$630 million in which there are big projects for instance P&G Viet Nam, Amway, Kimberly-Clark Viet Nam, etc.
