Binh Duong: Launching the first self-driving cars

​PORTAL - On the morning of October 03, Becamex Tokyu Co., Ltd. held the Launching ceremony of self-driving cars in Binh Duong New City and tested driverless cars on public roads.

​Attending the ceremony, there were Mr. Nguyen Loc Ha - Member of Provincial Standing Party Committee, Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee (PPC) and Mr. Kusaka Masatoshi – Consulate of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City.

This is a project implemented by Becamex Tokyu Co., Ltd in collaboration with Phenikaa-X and Nippon Koei Vietnam.

​Applying the most advanced technologies in the world, Phenikaa-X Vietnam Group has researched, developed and perfected the first level 4 self-driving vehicle in Vietnam in the 5-level scale for self-driving cars of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The car was officially launched on March 26, 2021 after a period of testing at Phenikaa University, Hanoi.

Self-driving cars have a very high level of safety because of the super-sensitive sensor system. With outstanding intelligent features such as cruise monitoring system, lane control system, collision warning and speed adjustment, etc., Phenikaa-X self-driving car helps the use space become more modern, smarter and environmentally friendly, and aims to develop smart cities from smart traffic solutions.

Sharing about the project, Mr. Oh Dong Kun - General Director of Becamex Tokyu Co., Ltd. said that the test of self-driving cars on the route connecting the Administrative Center Building of Binh Duong Province with Hikari Commercial Area will help the organizer to verify the safety and handling ability of the vehicle. At the same time, carrying out a survey for passengers using and participating in the car experience. From the collected data, the units will analyze the data and research measures to promote urban development with smart solutions.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Kusaka Masatoshi - Consulate of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City said that this self-driving car test project is within the framework of smart city research and development conducted by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. He hoped that more partners will participate in this project, together to further promote the safety and effectiveness of the self-driving car initiative, and at the same time contribute to bringing Binh Duong New City closer to the model of a smart city.

Assessing the effectiveness of the project, Mr. Nguyen Loc Ha commented, the program is particularly important because this is the first time that driverless vehicles have been officially operated on public roads in Vietnam. Through this test run program, Binh Duong hoped that the project will contribute to the development of both public transport and innovation in line with the spirit of Binh Duong Smart Region.

After cutting the ribbon to inaugurate the self-driving car project, the guest delegates experienced the first self-driving car. The route to conduct the test is a 750m-long arc connecting the Administrative Center Building of Binh Duong Province and Hikari Commercial Area.
