Digital transformation lays the foundation for a modern economy

​PORTAL - On the morning of April 27, in Hanoi, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh - Chairman of the National Committee on Digital Transformation chaired the 2nd meeting of the Committee to evaluate the work performance in the first quarter of 2022 and identify key tasks and solutions to focus on implementing in the coming time.​

​The meeting is connected online with Ministries, Ministerial-level agencies, Government agencies, People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities.

At Binh Duong bridge point, there were Mr. Nguyen Van Danh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated: The document of the 13th Party Congress has identified national digital transformation as a very important task, associated with three main pillars: digital government, digital economy and digital society. The Party, State and Government pay special attention to digital transformation, towards digital government, digital economy, digital society and digital citizens. This is also an area of great interest to the people and enterprise community.

The Prime Minister emphasized: "Digital transformation is a driving force promoting innovation, creating the foundation for a modern economy, the task of the National Committee on Digital Transformation is very heavy; we must direct and organize the implementation of guidelines, mechanisms and policies to promote the process of national digital transformation, closely linked with administrative reform; build and develop e-Government, digital government, digital economy, digital society and smart city; facilitate the implementation of the 4th Industrial Revolution in Vietnam; associated with the current process of rapid recovery and sustainable socio-economic development as well as development goals by 2025, 2030 and 2045".

In the coming time, the Prime Minister asked the Ministries and local branches to focus on reviewing, amending, supplementing and perfecting the digital institution; develop digital transformation infrastructure, apply digital technology; vigorously mobilize resources through the promotion of public-private cooperation; develop appropriate mechanisms and policies; improve modern management capacity, suitable to the situation, capacity and level of Vietnam; improve the quality of human resources; regularly inspect and supervise to promote work and prevent and combat corruption, negativity, group interests, waste, etc.

In the context that time and resources are limited, the Prime Minister noted that investment in digital transformation must have a focus, key point, do and completely finish the work, not be spread, divided, fragmented, discrete, choosing the things that have a pervasive and effective impact right away for implementation.

As reported by the Ministry of Information and Communications - the Committee's standing body, the digital economy's contribution to Vietnam's economy is increasing, estimated digital economy revenue in the first quarter of 2022 will reach about 53 billion USD. In which, the platform digital economy has a growth rate of 28%, reaching 8 billion USD in revenue, the rest is the ICT digital economy and the branch digital economy, with an average revenue growth rate of about 15%.

According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, by the end of February 2022, there were 65,329 newly established digital technology enterprises, increased by 487 enterprises compared to 2021.

Following the announcement of the Prime Minister's conclusions at the first meeting of the Committee, Ministries, branches and localities were assigned to deploy 03 tasks with completion deadlines in the first quarter of 2022, all of which were completed on time. According to the Committee's Work Plan for 2022, Ministries, branches and localities will continue to complete 14 tasks in April 2022.

Over the past time, awareness of the importance of digital transformation at all levels and branches, especially leaders, has clearly changed, 100% of Ministries, branches and localities have completed the Digital Transformation Steering Committee, headed by the Head of the Committee.

The work of perfecting institutions, mechanisms and policies has received attention from leadership and direction, and has achieved positive results. The Prime Minister has issued 05 Decisions on Digital Transformation, of which October 10 every year is approved as the National Digital Transformation Day with 3 main goals of accelerating the implementation of national digital transformation tasks; raising awareness of people in the whole society about the role, meaning and benefits of digital transformation; promoting the participation and involvement of the entire political system, synchronous action at all levels and the participation of all people to ensure the success of digital transformation.
