Expanding the export market of Vietnam's animal products to other countries
Speaking at the opening of the conference, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development emphasized that, in 2021, the export of animals, animal products and animal feed, despite being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, still grew at a high level in both quantity and turnover (reaching over 1.5 billion USD), in which there was an important contribution of the Livestock industry. Specifically, the average growth of livestock production value was about 5-6%, the meat output of all kinds was about 6.2 million tons. Many localities have rapidly transformed their structure from scattered small-scale livestock production to livestock production of family farms and industrial farms; step by step associated with centralized slaughtering and processing technology, improving food quality and safety.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien speaks at the conference
In particular, the formation and investment of large enterprises such as Vietnam Joint Stock Company, Japfa Comfeed Company, Dabaco Company, GreenFeed Company, etc. have contributed to creating a foundation for sustainable development for Vietnamese livestock in the future; creating favorable conditions for livestock and poultry production to thrive over the years. However, the export of animals and animal products of the entire country is not commensurate with the potential of the Livestock industry. Therefore, the conference aimed to create a first step in connecting information between management agencies, enterprises and companies in order to find solutions to promote the export of livestock products, especially products with potential advantages of Vietnam; propose solutions, create conditions to promote the production and export of livestock products with the goal of improving the value and promoting livestock products of the localities in particular and the entire country in general.
Regarding the plan to promote the export of animals and animal products in the 2022-2025 period, the Department of Animal Health said that the goal is to expand the export market of Vietnam's animal products to other countries, promoting the growth of export turnover of animal products. Improving the quality of animal products and exports of Vietnam to meet the regulations of the import markets. Successfully building production chains that meet disease-free (DF) requirements and ensure veterinary hygiene and food safety requirements according to international standards.
Delegates present their presentations at the conference
At the conference, localities proposed and suggested solutions to promote the export of animals and animal products such as: Developing long-term strategic export programs, projects and plans; advertising and promoting trade in livestock products with strengths to expand markets. At the same time, organizing conferences on trade and investment promotion so that breeders and enterprises have conditions to contact, meet, exchange and link in building production chains and exporting livestock products. Giving timely forecasts on the disease situation in livestock herds and researching solutions to prevent new infectious diseases from appearing in an effective way to stabilize livestock production to meet export requirements. Creating favorable conditions for enterprises to export directly to enhance product value. Researching solutions to reduce the price of animal feed, then to reduce livestock costs and increase product competitiveness. Continuing to guide, support and appraise the construction of DF chains and zones for localities. The Department of Livestock Production soon develops and deploys software and digital technology applications in livestock management from grassroots to provincial level, etc.
Binh Duong proposes to add 02 provincial projects to the list of projects calling for investment
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Mai Hung Dung said, Binh Duong is one of the pioneering provinces that successfully built many DF zones, managing food safety to meet export requirements. Although it is a province focusing on industrial development, in recent years the Agriculture branch in general and the livestock industry of Binh Duong province in particular have maintained stable development; structure of the livestock industry has been strongly transformed from household-scale livestock production to farm-scale livestock production with high technology application. The province's viewpoint is to develop the livestock industry in the direction of high-tech application farms, industrialization associated with processing industry and environmental protection (currently, livestock production with high technology in Binh Duong province accounts for about 60-70%). Livestock products are sufficient to supply domestic and regional markets and are likely to be exported.
Mr. Mai Hung Dung - Member of Provincial Standing Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee speaks at the conference
As reported by Binh Duong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, up to now, the total pig herd in the province has about 912,000 heads, in which livestock production with high-tech application accounts for over 60%; total poultry flock has about 13.9 million heads, in which livestock production with high-tech application accounts for over 70%. In the period from 2016 to now, the total pig herd has increased by about 9% per year on average; the total poultry flock increased by about 7% on average. In the first 2 months of 2022, the provincial Livestock industry has supplied to the market over 500,000 pigs and over 3.9 million broilers, implemented local slaughter control over 200,000 pigs and over 4 million poultry.
It can be said that the livestock industry of Binh Duong province has fully met the demand for animal meat and animal products for the local market; partially supplied for the Southeast region's consumption market and is likely to aim for export. Currently, Binh Duong province is one of the localities that have achieved high results in the construction of the animal DF zones for export purposes. The province has been recognized by the Department of Animal Health for 10 district-level DF zones. There are 47 commune-level DF facilities and 185 DF-recognized livestock farms; there are 19 pig farms that have been recognized as animal DF facilities for African swine fever.
At the conference, Binh Duong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development also proposed the Ministry of Agriculture to consider adding 02 projects of Binh Duong province to the list of projects calling for foreign investment in the fields of agriculture, forestry and fishery in the 2021-2025 period according to the content of Document no. 3293/BNN-HTQT dated June 02, 2021 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
