According to the draft planning of Thu Dau Mot City People's Committee, on the basis of the results and achievements achieved over the past time, in the 2021 – 2030 period, with a vision to 2050, Thu Dau Mot City determines the development orientation is to realize the "dual goal" of both drastic pandemic prevention and control, and determination to maintain, restore and develop socio-economic activities, ensuring social security and welfare; redirect economic activities, have policy solutions to overcome the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and quickly recover the economy; promote consumption of domestic goods, creating jobs for workers.

Building Thu Dau Mot City as the provincial capital of Binh Duong with the function of being a political - economic - cultural - scientific and technical center, a high-class technology center of the province and striving to be "a smart, civilized, rich, beautiful, modern, affectionate, livable city".

Continuing to develop the economy under the structure of "Services - Industry and Urban Agriculture", giving priority to strongly developing high-quality services, improving the quality of living environment and urban landscape towards sustainability; ensuring national defense, maintaining political security, social order and safety; constantly improving the material and spiritual life of the people; ensuring social security; building a contingent of cadres and party members, especially leaders and managers who are on a par with their duties in the new situation and performing well in administrative reform.

Combining Thu Dau Mot City with Binh Duong New City which is an Innovation Regional Center with the development orientation to become a new gateway of Thu Dau Mot in the future when connecting with Ring Road 3, Ring Road 4, Chon Thanh - Ho Chi Minh City Expressway as well as the railway line, to be the focus of important infrastructure and works in the strategy of forming the region's Innovation center and be also a decisive factor for building a smart city; building a smart city management center, building a synchronous database system and investing in developing smart urban technical infrastructure.

Focusing on developing Binh Duong Smart Region to maintain the title of Smart21 as a typical smart region in the world recognized annually by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF). Continuing to develop a multi-polar and multi-field urban model, in which the New urban area (Binh Duong Industrial - Service - Urban Complex) and the existing urban center are two development poles linked by roads and functional areas, etc.

Commenting on the draft planning, the delegates said that the planning of Thu Dau Mot city still has many shortcomings, not specific and clear. The planning has not been comprehensive and building a smart and modern Thu Dau Mot, connecting regions of the province from the transportation system, to the development of industrial parks, cultural and tourist conservation areas, etc. To develop a city plan, it must be based on the general planning of the province.
