Information and Communication industry has achieved strong developments

​PORTAL - On the morning of January 12, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Information and Communication (IC) organized a conference to review the work of IC industry in 2020 and in the period 2016-2020; directions and tasks for the year 2021; plan to develop the IC industry for the period 2021-2025.

There were Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc - Member of the Politburo, Prime Minister; Mr. Vo Van Thuong - Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department; Mr. Vu Duc Dam - Deputy Prime Minister attending the conference.

At Binh Duong broadcast station, there were Mr. Mai Hung Dung - Member of Provincial Standing Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee; leaders of Department of Information and Communications and other departments, boards and branches attending the conference.

In the period 2016-2020, the IC industry continues to make new progress. The whole industry has focused on implementing the strategy of restructuring the economy associated with innovation of growth models; Thereby, many very satisfactory results have been achieved: The national information infrastructure system continues to be built modernly and widely. Post and telecommunications network develops rapidly and steadily. Information technology (IT) has developed strongly with many achievements in IT application of state agencies and social life. In particular, the National Digital Transformation Program with the dual goal of developing a digital government, digital economy, digital society and forming growing up digital technology enterprises in Vietnam, which has spread widely in the whole society, from central to local.

The press has affirmed its role and position in the cause of national construction and defense; to be an important information channel to help the Government manage socio-economy, curb inflation and ensure social security; to fight against and combat negative developments, fight against Non-violent resistance and distorted allegations of hostile forces; honestly reflect the main flow of Vietnamese society, create consensus, spread positive energy, arouse the aspirations of strong and prosperous Vietnam, contribute to creating spiritual strength for Vietnam to make breakthrough.

Up to now, most of set targets for industry development in the whole period have been achieved or exceeded.

The growth indexes of many fields in the IC industry are highly appreciated by international organizations. According to the report on the Integrated Index for Postage Development in 2019 published by the Universal Postal Union (UPU), Vietnam ranked 45/172 countries (increase by 5 orders compared to 2018); in the telecommunications sector, the IDI rating of Vietnam reached 5.69, corresponding to the 77th rank (equal to Thailand); Vietnam has a strong improvement in the ranking of global cybersecurity and safety assessed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), from 100th rank in 2017 to 50th rank in 2019. Vietnam is also considered as the country with the second lowest number of mobile malwares in Southeast Asia, following Singapore. Vietnam is considered to be the country with the strongest progress on the WEF's 140-country ranking, with a 10-level increase in the GCI index (from 77th rank in 2018 to 67th rank). In which, the Component Index of Information and Communication Technology application (ICT adoption) plays a very important role when increasing by more than 50 ranks from 95 (2018) to 41. Survey Report on E-Government Development Index (EGDI) in 2020 was announced by the United Nations on July 10, 2020, Vietnam ranked 86th out of 193 member countries of the United Nations, increased by 2 ranks compared to 2018, of which the Telecommunication Infrastructure Index increased sharply by 31 orders.

Delivering a speech at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister – Mr. Vu Duc Dam affirmed that 2020 is a year of numerous difficulties in the face of Covid-19 pandemic; However, Vietnam has made spectacular progress, especially efforts of the IC industry to overcome difficulties to achieve many proud achievements. In the next 5 years, the entire IC industry needs to bring into play its overall strength to create trust, social consensus and national aspirations for a mighty Vietnam; The Ministry of Information and Communications is strong, develops, plays an important role and position in the system of government agencies, having a great impact and influence both domestically and internationally. Focus on promoting digital transformation, bringing technology into all fields; promote innovation, create growth, increase labor productivity; technology and digital infrastructure play a decisive role in the digital economy, contributing to making Vietnam become a prosperous developed nation by 2045.​
