This is the first time the event has taken place in Vietnam after it has taken place in many places such as Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, and Thailand etc. aims to enable scholars, experts and officials interested in meeting, sharing research and learning experiences in Asian urbanization.
This conference has a larger scale than previous times with the participation and speech of some world-class scholars such as Professor Michael Douglass of the University of Hawaii and many other great scholars from the United States, the Federal Republic of Germany, France, Finland and most countries of South Asia and Southeast Asia etc.

On November 28 and 29, 2019, international and domestic scholars will present over 100 papers focusing on 8 topics including: Climate change and urban resilience; implementable urban governance & sustainable urban finance; smart and green mobility; transformations in land management; livable and smart cities; integrated planning and development; urban slums and affordable housing; urban renewal and redevelopment.
Notably, at the special sessions, there will be presentations on Binh Duong smart city development by Mr. Peter Portheine (Smart Region Eindhoven) and on Vietnam Urban Development Strategy to 2030 by Dr. Nguyen Quang (Director of Vietnam UN-Habitat Program).

According to Dr. Ha Thuc Vien - Vice President of VGU, the AURA selected 15th AUC. VGU is hosted by several training programs related to urban development and urban sustainable. This is a training program in cooperation with VGU and leading German universities. Besides, the university also has a lot of research related to sustainable urban development. Due the capacity and topic of the conference are related to the content that the university is conducting training, AURA agreed to allow VGU to hold a conference in Binh Duong. Also according to Dr. Ha Thuc Vien, currently for the Asian region, the development of megacities leads to the development of infrastructure and housing, social service conditions for people in urban areas become challenging issues, therefore, with real-world evidence, Binh Duong needs a new approach in urban management. We do not focus on developing large cities; we should develop urban at small and medium scale so that we have access to modern urban development, which creating an open space for people to live peacefully in an urban environment. The research content at the conference is to share experiences and solutions so that Binh Duong can have a reasonable development orientation, ensuring modern urban development without losing humanistic values and environmental impacts.

Besides scientific events, the conference also organized side events such as a discussion session for young scientists on career development orientation, organized a Ho Chi Minh City development tour for scholars and experts to expand the network of cooperation in domestic and international research, training, and development on sustainable urban development.
