Attending
the workshop was representatives of the zone, central inspection board,
Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of
Industry and Trade, and leaders of 8 provinces and cities of the zone including
Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai Province, Ba Ria Vung Tau Province, Binh Duong, Binh
Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Long An, and Tien Giang.
As
for Binh Duong Province, Tran Van Nam, the member of Central Committee of CPV,
Secretary of Provincial Party Committee and Head of Provincial NA Delegation,
Tran Thanh Liem, the Deputy Seretary of Provincial Party Committee cum Chair of
Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Van Hung, the permanent member and
President, Genral Director of Becamex IDC and leadres of some
departments and agencies.
In
over 16 years (1998 to 2015), the Southern Major Econoimc Zone has been of fast
economic transition to effective and high quality direction. From 2011 to 2015,
the zone eyed stable growth at 1.5 times higher than average growth rate of the
nation. The zone covers 8% area and 17% of national population to produce over
40% of national GDP, 40% of importing and exporting revenue, 60% of State
budget contribution, and over 50% of foreign investment.

At
the workshop, the delegates discussed commerce and tourism development links of
the zone, State laws for developing the zone, development policies for economic
corridors promoting development of finance, protection of environment, and
development of traffic system in the zone.
Addressing
the workshop, Pham Danh, the Deputy Director of Binh Duong Provincial Department
of Natural Resources and Environment informed of two major problems in the zone
due to strong population growth and establishment of business lines.
Accordingly, the pollution of Dong Nai River has been growing due to industrial
wastes and daily wastes from production activities and daily life. As the
matter of fact, detail measures are required for environment protection for the
sustainable development of the zone.
Dinh
La Thang highly appreciated the opinions and proposals of breakthroughs by the
delegation. He asserted that sustainable connection should be established among
the provinces and cities to integrated local economic development benefits to
the zone's, contributing to national development. Besides, the zone council
should coordinae to promote its role in the process of promoting regional
economic connection.
